Following an enjoyable visit to Lords to see the recent archery tournament, Graham and David Weaver, Andy Nottage and Sharon and Mark Lawrence returned home inspired to try out a head to head shoot at the club. Tom and I suggested that they decide between themselves on how they wished to formulate a trial shoot. Having done this, members met at the club on Sunday, 30th October to shoot a trial head to head. Unfortunately Graham and David were unable to attend, and the trial shoot went ahead with Sharon and Mark, Jean, Andy, Paul and Tom.
They set out three targets; one with a 122 cm face for members within the 60 handicap bracket, an 80 cm face for those within the 50 handicap bracket and a 60 cm face for those within the 40 handicap bracket; all shooting at 30 metres. They started shooting at 11.20 am and finished at 2.35 pm.
After shooting only 3 sighter arrows, they went on to shoot 5 rounds of 9 arrows using the special score sheets prepared by Sharon, which provided for each archer to shoot 3 ends of 3 arrows and at each end the archer with the highest score received 2 points. If the scores were tie, each archer received 1 point. After shooting the 3 ends, the first archer to reach 6 points was the winner.
During and after the shoot, Mark and Sharon asked the club members attending if they had any suggestions to alter the format and, if so, it could be included in the next trial. If the second trial is successful, Tom suggested that because the club diary is fairly full, if they wanted to include a Head to Head in place of some Sunday club days they should put forward a proposal (with dates) at the club AGM.
The weather was dull but mild, with light winds.
