PILGRIM ARCHERS Ingatestone

About Us
Established in 1954, we are a friendly Essex Club based in the village of Ingatestone, with a varied year-round programme covering most aspects of Archery.

We are fortunate in having among our members a number of GNAS (Nationally Qualified) coaches and our aim is to offer a continuous 'coaching and improvement programme' for those members who are keen to progress and achieve.  However, for those who prefer a more casual approach, enjoying the fresh air and good company, with no pressure to improve or achieve, that is also fine with us. We also have a reputation as a social group, enjoying other events such as days out and evenings for members in the odd hostelry.

We meet every Sunday throughout the year and, during October to March we shoot 9 sessions indoors.  Additionally, during the summer months (April to September), we also shoot on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

If you would like to consider joining us please contact the secretary to find out more.

During the year we offer Introductory Courses for interested parties of all ages. The fee covers tuition, insurance and the use of Club equipment. In fact, we strongly advise against newcomers to the sport buying any equipment, as the choice very much depends on the individual. When the time comes, we will be happy to assist and advise. The Courses take approximately ten hours over about 6 sessions, but is flexible.

If this appeals to you, please fill out the e-mail form on our contact page, title the document INTRODUCTORY COURSE, and we will reply advising details of availability, dates and current Course fee.

One of our lady members, Claire Stanford, is Vice President of the Essex and Suffolk County Archery Association and another, Iris Major, is Life Vice President.  Both are County Coaches, as is Tom Major, who recently stood down as President of the Association. Chris Smith has retired as a Senior Coach and now holds the status Emeritus.  We also have have 2 qualified Level I Coaches. So you see, we have ample experience to pass on to any prospective archers.

We cater for traditional Long Bow and Recurve (the Olympic Games accepted standard) styles of archery, principally target shooting but, occasionally during the year, we also shoot field and clout disciplines as well as some speciality and novelty events.  For most of our in-house events we award annual trophies and medals to the victors. When enroling with the club it is necessary to affiliate to the National Governing Body (Grand National Archery Society, commonly referred to as GNAS). This covers your insurance and also allows you (if you wish) to enter the many other Club, County, Regional, National and International competions. If you look on the "WHIT SHOOT" page you will see details of our own annual tournament which, this year, will be held on Sunday, 10th May at Belhus Woods County Park, Aveley.  Perhaps a good opportunity for you to come along and see exactly what we do and have a chat with any of our members.
